Sisters Are Doinggg it For themmmselvesssss #EqualsLive2012

Equals Live was definitely a highlight of my career, singing 'Sister, Are Doing It For Themselves' on stage with Annie Lennox!!! Emeli Sande!!! and Jess Mills!! was such an amazing experience.

Annie was an inspiring compere! and Emeli and Jess played inspiring sets as well!

It was a completely different gig to what I'm used to, everyone was seated!!! (eeeeek) So I did an acoustic version of 'Go Away', if you didn't catch it at Equals Live I'll be performing it on 'Womens Hour' on Radio 4 soon! I'll keep you posted.

I asked my followers on twitter when will we know #WeAreEquals and i got an amazing response, some funny;

Some interesting;

and Annie even read some out on stage! so thank you so much for your participation! :D

Here are some statistics that opened my eyes this International Womens Day:

-In 2011 we still live in a world where women perform 66% of the world’s work, produce 50% of the world’s food, earn 10% of world’s income and own 1% of the world’s property.

-In the UK 2 women die per week from domestic violence (mostly from current or former partners)

-1 in 4 women will also experience sexual harassment or rape of some kind in their lifetime.

-Women get paid on average one third less than men to do the same jobs

-a recent poll of young teenage girls in the daily mail showed that the huge majority of girls would rather have big boobs than a high IQ.

-In the UK, it’s easy to feel as if the fight for equality has been won, but at the current rate of progress, it will take 200 years to achieve an equal number of women in UK parliament, and 73 years to achieve equal numbers on FTSE 100 boards.

I've learned so much this last week and I'm so grateful for the opportunity to perform for such a purpose.

  1. Kinda irrelevant to your post ^ but what the heck I have to give it a try.. I'm speaking on behalf of Norway.. You were supposed to play a gig here in october(?) but you cancelled for some reason :(
    And now we're really curious, when will you return? Or will you return at all?

    We are really looking forward to hear\feel you and your funky music live. So please, at least consider going back.

    Peace and lulz, love norway :)
